The Tumor
Registrars Association of North
Carolina (TRANC) was a
non-profit educational organization that was begun under the inspiration
and leadership of Mrs. Woods, Chief Registrar at Duke University Medical
Center, Durham, North Carolina on June 28, 1977 with consultation from Mr.
Willard Webber, Cancer Program Advisor, of the American College of Surgeons.The
first annual TRANC meeting was held at Moore Memorial Hospital in Pinehurst on September 21, 1977 with twenty-eight cancer registrars
present. On
November 16, 1995, the name TRANC was changed to the Association of North Carolina Cancer Registrars (ANCCR).
Purpose
ANCCR has major initiatives:
- To raise the level of knowledge and performance of cancer registrars through continuing
educationTo disseminate information to members of the association on current activities,
research, and trends in cancer disciplinesTo initiate and/or participate in programs to improve and standardize the compiling of
cancer data
- To promote liaisons between members of this association and related professions,
governmental organizations, medical, and educational institutions.

ANCCR's membership encompasses the
state of NC and neighboring states. The membership is composed of registrars and other
professionals with involvement or interest in various aspects of registry operations. Membership Categories
Active - Those involved in registry operations - Dues $25 per yearAssociate - Those with a special interest in cancer registry work -
Dues $15 per yearSustaining - Those interested in promoting the principles and purpose
of ANCCR including corporations - Dues $50 per yearCharter - Those who originated the association in June 1977 or joined
in the first year - Dues $25.00 per year
Honorary - Life membership for former presidents who have retired from
the profession and select others - Annual Dues
Dues to cover the period December 1 through November 30 and shall be payable
on December 1 of each year.A membership application must be submitted with payment in order to update
the membership rosterIf membership lapses, a $25.00 re-instatement fee must be paid with the
annual dues. Corporate memberships are welcome under the Sustaining Membership

Members receive reduced registration fees at ANCCR sponsored meetings.Members receive the newsletter The Sentinel which is published 6 times per year
Members have access to the "Members Only" section of the web site which is
password protected which includes the following online:

Effective 3/8/2005
Members who have been a paid member in good standing for one year prior
to taking the CTR exam, will receive one year's free membership when
passing the CTR exam. Members must submit proof of passing in writing
to the President within 90 days of the exam date. The President will
mail the member a certificate/coupon for a one year's free membership.
The certificate/coupon must be submitted with the membership application.
By decision of the ANCCR Executive Board on 3/8/05, the $50 reimbursement
for passing the CTR exam will no longer be offered.

M. Woods, CTR, foundress of Tumor Registrars
Association of North Carolina (TRANC).Nomination "form" may
be in writing or may be electronic (e-mail)Nominator must be an
ANCCR member-in-good-standing.Nominee need not be
a member of ANCCR.Deadline for submission:
the nomination form must be received by the ANCCR Historian at least
two (2) weeks before the ANCCR meeting.Nomination "form" must
give as many details as possible why the nominee deserves this award.
- Approval must be 100%

Winston-Salem) and to Judy Robertson, CTR (Tumor Registry manager, Duke
University Medical Center) at the TRANC 1994 Fall meeting in Greensboro.The fifth LMW Award was presented on April 20, 1995 to Judy Wazenkewitz,
CTR (Tumor Registrar, Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia) at the TRANC
1995 Spring meeting in Hickory.The sixth LMW Award was presented on October 6, 1995 to Linda Mulvihill,
CTR (Quality Control, Central Cancer Registry) at the ANCCR 1995 Fall meeting
in New Bern.The seventh LMW Award was presented on April 9, 1997 to Tim Aldrich, PhD
(Director, North Carolina Central Cancer Registry) at the ANCCR 1997 Spring
meeting in Charlotte.The eighth LMW Award was presented on September 8, 1999 to Judy Robertson,
CTR (Quality Control, North Carolina Central Cancer Registry) at the ANCCR
1999 Fall meeting in Raleigh.The ninth and tenth LMW Awards were presented on September 25, 2003 to
Annie Blanche Sellars, CTR (Cancer Registrar, Rex Cancer Center), and to
Gloria Regan, CTR (Rapid reporting, UNC Lineberger Cancer Center) at the
ANCCR 2003 Fall meeting in Hendersonville.The eleventh LMW Award was presented on September 16, 2004 to Inez F.
Evans, CTR (Manager, Cancer Registry, WFUBMC) at the ANCCR 2004 Fall meeting
